Willem Jan Renders
The large-scale international project “Art platform for the promotion of Ural contemporary art” has a new tutor. Now the work of art critics is curated by Willem Jan Renders from the Netherlands. The foreign expert has already conducted a series of creative master classes with the participants and concluded that the Art platform will bring new ideas to contemporary art.
– I liked the concept of an “Art platform” where artists and critics from different cities can work together. Such projects are certainly necessary. I’m glad I joined, ” said Willem.
The new curator of “Art platform” studied art history in the Netherlands, as well as in Italy. After graduation, he worked at the Boijmans-van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam. For more than 20 years, Wiliem has been the head of communications at the Museum of modernism and contemporary art in Eindhoven, and since 2012, Renders has been curator of Russian art.
– I am a specialist in Soviet and Russian art of the XX and XXI centuries. In Yekaterinburg, my attention was drawn to the Ural industrial Biennale, which I visited several times. A lot of my friends live in Russia, ” says Willem.
With one of the leading contemporary curators, Director of the Museum of modern art in Eindhoven and editor – in-chief of the magazine “AFTERALL” Charles esche, our tutor curated the exhibition “Lissitzky-Kabakov: utopia and reality”, presented at the van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven, and then at the Hermitage. Together with Angela LAMPE, curator of the collections of contemporary art at the Georges Pompidou National center for art and culture, William Yan curated the exhibition “Chagall, Lissitzky, Malevich – Vitebsk art school 1918-1923”, which opened in 2018 at the Pompidou Center in Paris.
– I am currently preparing an exhibition on the theme “the First Russian art exhibition” (1922-1923), which will be shown in Berlin and Amsterdam. I am very proud of this project. I also continue to learn Russian, which is very difficult for me – ” smiles Renders.
Recall that the project “Art platform for the promotion of Ural contemporary art” is attended by 20 authors from Yekaterinburg, Perm, Chelyabinsk, Noyabrsk and other cities, 86 Ural artists and 4 international experts from Sweden, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
