Text about the artist
The name of the second artist whose work will form the basis of the author’s text of the tutor of the project “Art platform for the promotion of Ural contemporary art”, implemented by the Sinara Charitable Foundation, has become known. An expert from Switzerland, Nadine Reinert, started writing a review of the visual research of the famous Ural photographer Fyodor Telkov. Subsequently, the tutor’s text will be printed as an art booklet and sent to libraries and cultural institutions.
– Text is a tool that an artist can use to understand how his work works with the audience. See if creating it works at all. Sometimes a text about an artist or his work simply helps the artist to understand what exactly he did and bring some new thoughts. Text is a recognized, obvious, and well-established form of thinking about art. Currently, our artists create in a vacuum. Critical texts about their works are not written, which means that the number of people who can learn about the artists is absolutely equal to the number of people who have seen these works. In our project, we collect the initial body of texts, translate them, and publish them online on the site uralartplatform.ru and we try to make sure that these texts are read. This is how we are taking a step towards removing the invisibility hood from the Ural art community – ” said Zhenya Chaika, curator of the Art platform.
Fyodor Telkov is a photographer, researcher of the anthropological and cultural diversity of the Urals and Russia, teacher of graphic design and applied photography. Since 2010, member of the Union of artists of Russia, winner of national and international awards. His project about old believers made an unforgettable impression on the expert of contemporary art from Switzerland Nadine Reinert. “The right of faith” is a visual study of closed communities of modern old believers. The author tells the stories of current old believers and their families fighting for freedom of their religion.
– Nadine and I spoke several times via video link. She is a thoughtful, interested and busy person. We have some difficulties in communicating due to language barriers, but on the other hand, they are interesting to overcome. Another interesting thing is that we live in different cultural and historical spaces, – Fedor Telkov shared his impressions.
The project “Art platform for promoting Ural contemporary art” is implemented with the support of the presidential grants Fund. The unique cultural event is attended by 20 authors from Yekaterinburg, Perm, Chelyabinsk, Noyabrsk and other cities, 86 Ural contemporary artists and international experts. Critics conduct interviews with artists, talk about contemporary art and work on texts that will be published on the official website of the project with an English translation. Over the summer, 45 webinars were held dedicated to the study of Ural contemporary art and the practice of writing critical texts.
